Updates from IATA:
January 2022 - IATA has eliminated Section II for FRU shipments (single battery shipments, quantity 1) from the Packing Instructions for Lithium Batteries (FRU) and Lithium-Ion Batteries (FRU). All battery FRU shipments will need to follow Section IB following the standard dangerous goods requirements (proper documentation, labeling, handling & IATA trained).
Advance Information on Changes Effective 1 January 2025 and 1 January 2026-
- Lithium-ion batteries shipped by themselves (PI 965) - All NetApp batteries are shipped at or below 30% state of charge meeting the IATA requirements.
- Lithium-ion batteries packed with equipment (PI 966) Section I and Section II – NetApp does not pack batteries with equipment. This requirement does not apply to NetApp’s systems.
- Lithium-ion batteries contained in equipment (PI 967) – There is no requirement regarding State of Charge. “Should have” is not a requirement.
