Migrating databases from on-premises to the cloud has always been challenging, with various considerations such as availability, instance selection, storage options, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Traditionally, it required subject matter expert knowledge in several fields and the use of multiple tools, making the process complex and time-consuming.
Now, NetApp BlueXP™ Workload Factory simplifies this process for MS SQL migrations by providing a single, easy-to-use PowerShell script. The script, downloadable from Workload Factory, collects the configuration data of all the workload stack, no matter the underlying on-premises storage. The results are then uploaded to Workload Factory, which presents the optimal cloud configuration and the TCO calculation under the “Explore Savings” tab.
With this new feature, users gain visibility into how their on-premises database environment will be deployed in the cloud, understanding the setup, configuration, and costs in a single view, and ensuring a smoother migration.
