Azure NetApp Files is an Azure native, first-party, enterprise-class, high-performance file storage service has announced general availability of cool access, for volumes in Premium, Ultra, and Standard service level capacity pools. Cool access lowers the cost of storage by transparently moving infrequently accessed data to a lower cost storage tier.
When enabled, cool access will move infrequently accessed data, determined by its access pattern, from the current service level to lower performance, lower cost storage significantly reducing the cost of Azure NetApp Files and making the service a cost-effective option for most business-critical workloads. With cool access, a customer defines a “coolness period”, the number of days before data can be moved, to provide a balance between performance and cost optimization. Additionally, cool access support in cross-region or cross-zone replication ensures data protection and cost savings without affecting source volume performance or latency. In a cross-region or cross-zone replication setting, cool access can also be configured exclusively on destination volumes enabling data protection without impact to performance on the source volumes.
Customers will need to register for the feature before enabling. To learn more about Azure NetApp Files storage with cool access, visit the documentation page.
