NetApp demonstrates its commitment to innovation and excellence with the latest updates to Google Cloud NetApp Volumes. We are pleased to announce the new capabilities that enable our electronic design automation (EDA) customers to accelerate their chip designs; enterprise customers to run their performance-intensive file applications optimized for cloud costs on any Google Cloud region of their choice closer to their customers; build custom AI agents grounded on their enterprise data; and run compliance workloads.

This blog post delves into these updates and describes how these advances benefit users.

If you’ll be at Google Cloud Next 2025 in Las Vegas, ask us about these next-level updates. Our team will be there in booth #3130 from April 9 through 11. We look forward to meeting with our customers and partners, discussing these new features, and exploring how they can serve your business needs. You can also schedule time with us for a private session to learn more about the solutions that NetApp and Google offer.

Faster chip designs, increased productivity

Application performance is crucial for customers who are leveraging elastic compute to build the next generation of chips with EDA, train their AI models, or manage petabyte-scale datasets. Large-capacity Google Cloud NetApp Volumes in the Premium and Extreme service levels now deliver up to 30GiBps throughput to meet these application performance demands. This throughput reduces wait times and results in lower overall cloud costs when working with large datasets. Being able to meet demanding workload requirements from a single large-capacity volume also reduces infrastructure administration overhead, so that IT teams can focus on business results rather than data management.

Avoid cloud waste and reduce storage costs

For customers who are migrating workloads to the cloud, the ability to rightsize resources to meet workload performance and capacity requirements is key to avoiding wasteful cloud consumption. The Flex service level has been improved to independently provision storage performance and capacity. We’ve also increased the maximum performance capabilities in the Flex service level to help meet these demands. Customers can now provision volumes that deliver up to 5GiBps throughput and up to 160K IOPS regardless of the capacity of the volume. These improvements, which are in public preview, remove overprovisioning and enable businesses to operate with granular capacity and performance management.

Google Cloud Vertex AI Agent Builder will soon enable users to build custom AI agents with just a few clicks. The integration of Google Cloud NetApp Volumes and the Google Cloud Vertex AI platform, which is in preview, enables customers to build agents on existing datastores without creating unnecessary copies of the data. This ability continues our history of reducing cloud waste and avoids unnecessary data sprawl to feed AI. By integrating NetApp Volumes with the Vertex AI platform, agents will be able to access data more efficiently and use it for multiple AI-driven applications. This integration will also enable customers to create more sophisticated and tailored agents, enhancing their overall experience with the Vertex AI platform.

Meet compliance requirements

Compliance is paramount in today’s digital landscape, and the latest features in NetApp Volumes address these concerns head-on. The upcoming addition of support for Google Cloud Assured Workloads means that users can meet regulatory requirements without overtaxing their infrastructure teams with complexity. Assured Workloads offers configurations tailored to compliance standards. Customers who use NetApp Volumes with Google Cloud Assured Workloads will meet the data residency, transparent access control, and cloud key management solution compliance requirements specific to their region.

Get the keys to success for high-performance workloads

The latest updates to Google Cloud NetApp Volumes enhance functionality, performance, and compliance. These advances highlight NetApp and Google Cloud’s commitment to delivering solutions that meet the evolving needs of our users. As businesses continue to navigate the complexities of the digital age, the enhancements in NetApp Volumes offer robust, reliable, and secure options for their cloud storage requirements.
