In 2024, NetApp doubled down on enterprise storage with a series of storage product launches that refreshed virtually our entire on-premises intelligent data infrastructure portfolio—from NetApp® AFF to ASA to FAS. At the same time, we’ve enriched our data services software to enable you to experience integrated business continuity and backups and industry-leading protection from cyberthreats.

Our goal has been to solve the core challenges you face. Those challenges typically begin with modernizing legacy infrastructure, slashing complexity, and making budgets go further, but they also include accelerating mission-critical VMware and database apps and protecting data from the ever-increasing threat of ransomware.

NetApp intelligent data infrastructure is our answer. It’s simple, flexible, silo-free enterprise storage that runs on—and is built for—intelligence. It enables you to seamlessly power your business, protects your workloads with industry-leading security, and delivers simplicity at scale.

Today’s announcements about NetApp ASA systems and our ransomware protection capabilities demonstrate that we’re carrying our innovation momentum forward into 2025. Buckle up.

No compromises—just simple, powerful, affordable block-optimized storage

To kick off 2025, we’re excited to announce new NetApp ASA solutions. ASA is our breakthrough all-flash intelligent data infrastructure specifically designed to power block workloads. The ASA family accelerates IT modernization by delivering block-optimized storage that’s simple to operate. It’s affordable, yet equipped with the advanced data management and protection features that you typically see only in high-end storage systems. With ASA, you no longer have to choose between storage that’s easy to use and storage that has scale-out and enterprise-class capabilities.

ASA technology enables you to provision in just 60 seconds and protect your workloads with one click. Rely on guaranteed 99.9999% data availability and a comprehensive software suite that eliminates the complexity of add-on products. Everything is built in. Even better, ASA is so affordable, you can modernize to all-flash at the cost of disk.

Now let’s dig into the ASA announcement. We’re introducing entry-level and midrange NetApp ASA A20, ASA A30, and ASA A50 systems to complement the high-end NetApp ASA A70, ASA A90, and ASA A1K systems we announced in September 2024. This completes the new ASA A-Series family and enables companies of every size to choose the right low-latency performance to power their mission-critical VMware and database apps. Each system comes complete with NetApp’s comprehensive suite of enterprise data services built in, including application-aware data protection with the NetApp SnapCenter® licensed capability, and is augmented by best-in-class management and tools such as the NetApp BlueXP™ control plane, NetApp Data Infrastructure Insights, and much more.

The ASA A-Series isn’t just simple and powerful—it’s incredibly affordable. Compared to similar offerings from other vendors, the ASA A-Series family delivers a price advantage of up to 30%! Today, you can get a high-performance ASA A-Series system for as low as $25,000. And with the depth and breadth of the ASA family, we have the right solution for businesses of every size—and every budget.

Our new ASA systems will also be available in a FlexPod® converged infrastructure, delivering the additional benefits of simplified data center operations and accelerated deployment of enterprise applications through pretested and validated architectures.

Industry-first autonomous ransomware protection

Last year, we debuted real-time autonomous ransomware protection that uses AI to analyze data patterns at the storage layer and achieve 99% detection accuracy. Understanding that ransomware is one of your top concerns, we built our ransomware detection capability directly into our hybrid multicloud NetApp ONTAP® storage OS.

Currently, this protection is available for your file-based data. Today, building on our ransomware detection accuracy, we’re debuting an industry-first NetApp Ransomware Detection program in which we commit to helping you recover if a ransomware threat is missed. No ransomware detection is perfect, and no vendor can claim that. But NetApp delivers outstanding accuracy with built-in real-time detection, and we’ll stand with you at no additional cost if even that amazing safety net doesn’t catch a threat.

But wait, there’s more. We’re also announcing another data security breakthrough: We’re bringing our autonomous ransomware protection to block workloads, and although plans are always subject to change, we expect this to be available later this year. That means your critical VMware and database applications will now be protected by storage-level ransomware detection with unprecedented accuracy.

NetApp was already known for being the most secure storage on the planet. We’re the only storage vendor to offer a ransomware recovery guarantee, applicable to both primary and secondary storage. Today’s announcements—adding a Ransomware Detection Confidence program and extending autonomous ransomware protection to block workloads—truly set a new standard for ransomware protection in the industry.

There’s much more to come

For most companies, powering block workloads and defending against ransomware are top-of-mind IT priorities. With NetApp ASA, we’re delivering an ideal solution for those block use cases, and with our autonomous ransomware detection capability, we’re providing protection that no other vendor can match.

These are core components of our comprehensive, breakthrough vision for intelligent data infrastructure, which is designed to help you achieve your modernization goals and set yourself up for future success. No other storage vendor offers such simple, comprehensive capabilities. NetApp has solutions to power every type of workload—mission-critical, general-purpose, backup, and more—across hybrid cloud and using a single storage OS. And NetApp delivers all that with industry-leading data protection built in, including backup, disaster recovery, cyber vault, and autonomous ransomware protection.

Looking ahead, we’ll continue to leverage the power of our secure, unified data storage ecosystem to empower you to meet new challenges. Today’s announcements are just a taste of what’s to come from NetApp in 2025.

Disclaimer: No ransomware detection or prevention system can completely guarantee safety from a ransomware attack. Although it’s possible that an attack might go undetected, NetApp technology acts as an important additional layer of defense, and our research indicates NetApp technology has resulted in a high degree of detection for certain file encryption-based ransomware attacks.
